Knowing where to start with your portfolio can be extremely daunting. Sitting in front of a screen with absolutely no creative thoughts or aha moments makes the seconds and minutes drag by.

So do yourself a favour and stop.

When no ideas are coming your way and you hit a creative block, it's best to take inspiration from others. There are so many great portfolio's out there that can not only inspire you but remind you of what's possible.

So grab a warm drink and let's go through some stunning portfolio's that will draw you in through storytelling, designs and humour.

Lindsey's portfolio reminds me of my Tumblr days (when Tumblr was still good) and I felt like I could create anything. The colour gradient is so soothing and the graph paper feels nostalgic in the best way. The paragraphs are spread out to avoid information overload and provides you with the information you need to know. The tone in her portfolio is friendly, as though you were catching up on the phone after a few years. I also love how each page of her work experience is a little different because they match her designs. She also provides an insight to her life outside UX which I love because it's wonderful to know the person behind the designer. She offers UX training and consultations as well as running a wonderful candle business.

This is the first portfolio that I bookmarked on my browser. I loved the playfulness and the small interactions that heightened the viewing experience. I had no idea that a portfolio could be quirky, fun even. My favourite elements of his portfolio are the colour tabs that tell his background story. It's such a fun way to share more about yourself that involves the reader. He has fun illustrations that are splayed throughout his website that go back to his playful element. For his case studies I really liked how he recognized his coworkers and the work that they had done, I made a mental note to add this to my case studies.

I was first exposed to Shabnam's work through my Google Certificates course in UX. A link to her portfolio was included and I instantly fell in love with the giant images of her work. The simplicity of her portfolio influenced me greatly. I appreciated that her portfolio got straight to the point. I admired how easily Shabnam was able to share her design thinking process and the lack of clutter on her page. Which I appreciate more now that I create my own case studies. More importantly, is that her portfolio is accessible and her designs are easy to follow.

If all you've ever done is a quick UX search on Youtube, chances are you've come across Rachel How. Rachel's videos pushed me to make the jump to UX during my previous career path. She provides articulate and useful information and that is reflected in her portfolio as well. Her heading, which she designed herself is fun and shows off her technical skills and creates a lovely contrast to rest of the white background. One of my favourite aspects of Rachel's portfolio is that she doesn't start with her work, she starts with who she is. She talks about herself as more than a designer and I found that very refreshing.

Doron's portfolio utilizes his own illustrations which is a clever way of displaying your work beyond case studies. I love the colour combinations that he selected and the use of images in his work as it makes for such an easy reading experience. Doron's portfolio is my ideal portfolio because of the way he utilizes the negative space, as it creates a perfect balance. The colour combinations he uses are consistent throughout his portfolio despite their boldness. Doron's portfolio is fun and encourages you to explore his work and see more of his illustrations.

It's amazing to see what other designers have created and how they share their work. I hope these portfolio's inspired you to begin creating your little corner of the internet. At the end of the day, it is about you, so make it the best version of yourself!
